Phillips 66 reported a fire with injuries and the release of some 5,000 pounds of propane at its Borger oil refinery complex in the Texas panhandle.
In a statement, Phillips 66 said six people were injured Tuesday in the incident and have been taken to area hospitals.
“The safety of our people, the community, and the environment are of the utmost importance to our company, and these priorities will guide our efforts as we investigate the cause of the incident,” the company said.
The fire and resulting release of propane happened at the Johnson Tank Farm section of the Borger refining complex, Phillips 66 said Wednesday in a regulatory filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The company said the section where the propane came out has been plugged up.
It wasn’t clear whether the propane released was in a gas form or a compressed, transportable liquid form.
The 150,000 barrel-a-day Borger refinery is located northeast of Amarillo, near the town of Borger.
